How to make your workspace as ergonomic as possible?

Whether you work from home or go to the office every day, make sure that your workspace is ergonomic. It may sound a little bit odd to some employees but you cannot ignore this aspect altogether forever. Compromising on the easiness of working means you are compromising your health. In the long run, you may grow several health issues that will make the rest of your life miserable. You should know there is no permanent remedy for frozen shoulder, back pain, spondylitis, and dozens of workplace-related diseases. 

Designing an ergonomic workspace is not a complicated affair 

 

Think a little bit, understand your basic necessities that would make your work hours physically comfortable. Don’t take this matter easily as your physical comfort determines your psychological well-being. Following are some important aspects of workspace ergonomic:

    • An ergonomic office chair– Ergonomic office chairs help to keep posture correct for hours. Correct back support, armrests, adjustable height, swiveling facility, roller for shifting places, and comfortable cushion makes an ergonomic chair. 
  • CPU and monitor holder– An adjustable CPU holder, laptop holder, and desktop monitor holder can make a huge difference in your performance and productivity. There should a specific height of the monitor with respect to your eyes. According to the experts in this field and ophthalmologists, the monitor should be parallel to the eyes. Use an adjustable holder for desktop monitors and laptops. Moreover, a strong and adjustable ergonomically designed CPU holder helps to get hold of the CPU without bending much.

  • Position of the mouse and keyboard– Mark the angle your forearm makes with the table when you hold the mouse. A wrong angle puts extra pressure on the wrist. If this continues for a long time, you may face wrist problems like carpal tunnel. The angle of the forearm with the table shouldn’t be more than thirty degrees. The same is applicable in the case of the keyboard. More parallel it is positioned with respect to your fingers better for your health. In this matter, the table or the desk you use plays a vital role. If the table is not replaceable try to use a thick pad or short-height small stool to move these two important parts of your workplace a little bit upward. 
  • Table – Is the desk you are using is a comfortable one? Is there sufficient space for your legs? Can you move your hand on different articles, keyboard, and mouse comfortably? Is there space to rest both of your elbows? If not, you have to change it or redesign it. The table is not a storage space. Many people just dump old papers and documents under the table that further reduces the space for legs and even CPU. Having a footrest in the table is an added advantage. 

Last but not the least, your wholehearted effort is prime to design an ergonomic workplace. You must be aware of various health-related issues that a wrong posture or wrong position of the computer unit can create. Your interest and plan can optimize your performance and productivity to a great extent.
