Satisfying online shoppers takes ingenuity and proactiveness. As consumers crave a more immersive, streamlined experience every time they shop, organizations are tasked with keeping pace with their demands and, thus, implementing the latest innovations and industry tactics. One such approach more and more organizations are taking in order to elevate the customer experience and stay competitive is composable commerce.
What is composable commerce? Put simply, it is a modular development approach to selecting and “composing” optimal commerce components. By leveraging the best-of-breed building blocks available, it enables companies to customize their technology stacks according to their distinctive needs. The result of such application and infrastructural modification is the ability to deliver a more outstanding customer experience.
Composable commerce works to optimize a storefront — whether it’s a website or app — by allowing developers to hand-pick components based on the features or functions they provide. These components can relate to many aspects of the customer journey, such as the search and checkout processes. With the new tech, the audience-facing e-commerce platform is made more personalized, operates at faster speeds and is overall more engrossing for the user.
There are a few key elements to commerce. The first is modular architecture. Composable commerce is modular in nature and, therefore, requires an infrastructure that can correspond effectively. This means organizations require architecture capable of supporting the interchanging of components without issue. Along the same lines is open configuration. An all-in-one commerce solution is not conducive to composable commerce. Instead, an open ecosystem that is not locked into a specific vendor and capable of facilitating easy integrations is essential.
When executed well, composable commerce can offer a business so many benefits. From enhanced scalability and flexibility to delivering exciting brand experiences tailored to the target audience’s preferences, the advantages of keeping pace with the latest best-of-breed components are considerable. After all, when a company prioritizes the building of strong customer relationships through outstanding experiences, it fosters genuine loyalty and drives competitive differentiation like nothing else.
Although relatively new to the scene, composable commerce is making huge waves across the vast e-commerce landscape. In fact, a 2023 survey revealed 72% of U.S. retailers had already implemented composable commerce in at least some manner as of March. What’s more, another 21% were planning to adopt it within the next year. Businesses of all sizes can’t afford to delay jumping on this industry game-changer and future of e-commerce.
